In the South, we rely on our air conditioning to get us through the hot, humid summer months. Unfortunately, the comfort of a cool home comes at a cost! No one likes paying their monthly utility bills, but it is necessary to keep our homes comfortable and welcoming. As experts in the HVAC industry, we want to pass along some knowledge to you to help reduce your AC costs so that paying your bill isn’t so bad.
Give It Some Help
While it is your AC’s job to keep your home cool, that doesn’t mean it can’t use a little bit of help. We can do our part to put our AC units in a position to succeed. The secret is to refrain from activities that heat your home up unnecessarily or at the very least be aware of what these activities are.
Things like cooking, especially with your oven, can increase the temperature of your home and force your AC to go into a bit of an overdrive to compensate. Another common culprit is the sun. Think about it. The earth is constantly being hit with the sun’s energy and heating it. This is why it’s so important to manage your curtains well and prevent unnecessary sunlight from coming into your home and heating the space.
Preventing HVAC Problems
Even if you are unintentionally heating up your home by a few degrees, your AC can most likely overcome it. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of problems with maintenance that can lead to damage to your AC.
It’s important to replace your air filters every month if you can and always keep your vents open. These two habits are so important to establish and will help your AC to be set up for future success.
